Maya and the Jealousy Monster: The Clapping Wasn’t for Her

A CBT inspired mini story to help children understand jealousy and self worth

Sometimes children feel left out even when nothing went wrong. A small moment can grow into a big feeling, especially when they see someone else being praised or appreciated. This short CBT inspired story, Jealousy Monster: The Clapping Wasn't for her, follows Maya as she faces her jealousy monster and learns that someone else’s success does not take away her worth. It is gentle, relatable, and written to help children understand their thoughts and feelings.

Jealousy Monster- The Clapping Wasn't for her Story wrap up

Jealousy can make children believe stories that are not true. Maya felt invisible when the clapping was not for her, and her thoughts became heavier and more painful. But with a little help, she realised that someone else doing well did not mean she was not good. She found her confidence again by noticing her thoughts, talking about her feelings, and seeing her own strengths. This is the heart of CBT for children. When they learn to pause, question the story in their mind, and look for real proof, big feelings start to lose their power.

Reminder for Parents

If this story felt familiar, you are not alone. Children often compare themselves with others and can easily believe that they are not good enough. A gentle reminder from you can help them notice these thoughts and see their own strengths.
